Brodie Engineering have devised a conversion for an rail
existing wagon to turn it into a general purpose crane for use in
maintenance work.
They contacted us to model and analyse the crane to ensure it would
meet the appropriate GMRT2100 standards while lifting the required load.
The FE model can be seen in the picture above (note that the crane
itself is only simulated as it is already certified to the appropriate
standards and was not part of this analysis).
Calculations were provided to Brodie Engineering, including details of
the finite element analysis, to achieve approval for the vehicle.
The photograph on the right shows the rail mounted multi purpose
vehicle with its 8 metre extending hydraulic crane.
