The power of MSC.MARC analysis technology has been brought into MSC.visualNastran for Windows in the form of the optional 'Nonlinear+' module. Contact
Nonlinear+ has the worlds most advanced capabilities to model contact between bodies. An automated solution is used for problems that involve contact between deformable bodies; unlike other FEA codes, Nonlinear+ does not require special "gap" elements to be placed between these bodies. The increment (step) size is automatically adjusted to satisfy the contact conditions and ensure solution convergence.
Non-linear material behaviour
For metallic materials Nonlinear+ can represent behaviour beyond the yield stress, which distinguishes elastic from plastic behaviour. Also rate-dependent material behaviour can be modelled e.g. large strain plasticity analysis which is encountered in manufacturing simulations.
For non-metallic materials Nonlinear+ provides an extensive material library ranging from concrete to biomedical polymers. Incompressible and nearly incompressible behaviour of elastomers can be modelled, and a foam model is available to treat materials where large volumetric compressible elastic stains occur.
